Numeral, an AI-powered platform simplifying sales tax compliance for e-commerce and SaaS companies, has successfully raised $35 million in a Series B funding round. Led by Mayfield, with participation from Benchmark, Uncork Capital, Y Combinator, and Mantis, this latest investment brings Numeral’s total capital raised to $57 million.
Founded in 2023 by former Stripe and Notion executives Sam Ross (CEO) and Matt DuVall (CTO), Numeral tackles the notoriously complex and ever-changing landscape of sales tax. Its platform automates every stage of compliance, from identifying nexus and registration to filing, remittance, and managing exemption certificates. The company prides itself on an error-free filing guarantee, dedicated support, and straightforward pricing.
The fresh capital will fuel the expansion of Numeral’s AI-driven automation capabilities, foster product innovation, and accelerate global growth. Currently, Numeral serves over 2,000 brands, including prominent names like Ridge, Eight Sleep, and Graza, and supports compliance in more than 60 countries.
Sales tax compliance remains a significant challenge for businesses, especially in the U.S., which boasts over 11,000 tax jurisdictions with unique rules and deadlines. The first half of 2025 alone saw over 400 rate changes, forcing even modest companies to manage dozens of state registrations and various filing frequencies.
Sri Pangulur, a partner at Mayfield, lauded Numeral for “transforming one of the most painful and error-prone functions in finance – sales tax compliance – by putting it on autopilot.” CEO Sam Ross added, “We built Numeral to eliminate that friction. This funding allows us to keep pushing the boundaries of what automation can do.” Avi Golan, CFO of Ridge, attested to the platform’s effectiveness, stating, “It’s been a breath of fresh air, and I can’t believe we didn’t migrate sooner.”
